PFUJ member killed and threats to journalists continue in Pakistan

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) joins its affiliate, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), to express its sympathy for murdered journalist and PFUJ member Afzal Khawaja in Baluchistan provinceearlier this week and again calls on government action after a separate incident involving threats to the news director of Karachi-based Geo News TV.

Pakistan Journalists Protest Countrywide after Deadliest Month in Years

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) said the first month of 2014 has been one of the deadliest in years for media workers in Pakistan. Four members of the media were slain in January and IFJ affiliate the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) continues to stage ongoing protests and actions across the country to mourn those lost and to demand action from the government to ensure the safety of media workers in Pakistan.

Four years on, the IFJ remembers PrageethEkneligoda and calls for overdue action

Today marks the four-year anniversary of the disappearance of Sri Lankan journalist and cartoonist PrageethEkneligoda. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is calling on the Sri Lankan Government (GSL) to properly investigate Ekneligoda’s case and prosecute all those guilty of attacking journalists and news gatherers since the Rajapaksa regime came to power.
